Binsey Conservation Area Appraisal

Overview

Oxford’s heritage is rich and diverse, encompassing many different historical periods and architectural styles.  There are 18 designated ‘Conservation Areas’ across the city which have been identified as having ‘special architectural or historic interest’ that makes them worth protecting and improving.

To help protect and improve these areas, Conservation Area Appraisals are created which outline the history of an area and identify and explain what makes it special, including its landscape, history, architecture and townscape.  This helps guide future development and manage change in a positive way that conserves and enhances the Conservation Area.

We are seeking feedback on our most recent Conservation Area appraisal for Binsey, and to gather any additional views and information which can be analysed and fed back into the final document.

You can download and read the appraisal in detail at the bottom of this page. Alternatively, you will be able to view it again as you progress through the survey. A physical copy will also be made available in Oxford Town Hall.

What happens next

After this consultation stage, we will analyse responses and feedback and make changes to the Conservation Area Appraisal accordingly. 

This information will be used to produce a final appraisal document, which will be helpful guidance for residents, and will form a material consideration when assessing and determining development proposals and planning applications within the Binsey Conservation Area.

A summary of our findings will also be published on the Oxford City Council website to identify what changes have been made to the appraisal.
