Council Tax Reduction Scheme 2024 Consultation

Closed 27 Sep 2024

Opened 9 Aug 2024

Overview

The Local Council Tax Reduction (CTR) Scheme is undergoing its annual review, and we invite you to share your views. This consultation is a legal requirement under the Local Government Finance Act 1992 (Section 13a 1(c)) and aims to ensure that the CTR scheme reflects the needs and preferences of our community.

The feedback we receive will help shape the support provided to households in need, ensuring fair and effective distribution of resources. We encourage everyone, including council taxpayers, local organizations, and other stakeholders, to participate and share their thoughts. The consultation will run from 9th August 2024 to 27th September  2024.

Paper questionnaires are also available at local libraries and community hubs.

Why your views matter

Your input is crucial in helping us understand our community's needs and preferences regarding the Council Tax Reduction Scheme. By participating in this consultation, you contribute to a more transparent and inclusive decision-making process.

Your feedback will directly influence the design and implementation of the CTR scheme, ensuring that it effectively supports those who need it most. We believe that your involvement leads to better outcomes and is key to making sure the scheme is fair and responsive to the diverse needs of our residents.

What happens next

Once the consultation period ends, all responses will be carefully analysed. The results will be reported to the members of the council, who will consider them when making any necessary adjustments to the CTR scheme.

A summary of the consultation findings will be published on the Oxford City Council website, and a detailed report will be made available in the Cabinet documentation.

The finalised scheme will be approved by the Full Council before the budget-setting process in February 2025, with the changes taking effect from April 2025.
