Local Government Reorganisation

You currently have two councils for your area:

  • A city/district council – responsible for services such as planning, council housing, community centres, leisure centres, parks and bin collections

  • A county council – responsible for services such as social care, children’s services, education, transport, public health and the fire service

1. In a new unitary council, one council would deliver all of these services. Which of the following three services are most important to you?

Please select up to three.

2. Thinking about decision-making for your area, to what extent do you agree or disagree with the following statement?
3. Thinking about how councils can support local opportunities, to what extent do you agree or disagree with the following statement?
4. Making savings and improving services ...

The Government has said that both cost savings and better public services are important aspects of local government reorganisation. There will be decisions to make about how much to focus on cost savings and where to invest in public services.

How strongly do you agree or disagree with the following statements?

Please rate from 0 to 10, where 10 means 'strongly agree' and 0 means 'strongly disagree'.

5. Thinking about local identity and belonging, which cities and settlements do you look towards for jobs, culture, leisure activities, and education?

Please select up to 3 answers.

6. Do you have any other comments, suggestions, or concerns about our proposals for local government reorganisation – specifically, the three-unitary model?
