Council Tax Reduction Scheme 2019/20

In April 2013 the Council Tax Benefit (CTB) scheme was replaced by a new Council Tax Reduction (CTR) scheme. Both Council Tax Benefit and Council tax Reduction provide support to people on low incomes by reducing the amount of council tax they have to pay.

Councils are now required to have their own schemes for deciding how to support people who are working age. There is still a national scheme of support for people of pension age. These schemes must be reviewed on an annual basis to determine whether to revise it or not. In order to change its scheme a council is required by law to consult residents on the proposed changes.

The Council is consulting on two changes it is proposing to make to its scheme for 2019/20.
